Course description
This half-day course covers the Units 3A, 4B and 5A of the QCA ICT Scheme
of Work for Key Stage 2. The course will demonstrate how to combine text
and graphics, develop images using repeating patterns and create objects
using an object-based graphics package. This course is suitable for developing
a wide range of skills using graphics software which can be used with children
throughout Key Stage 2. The materials installed on all NGfL networks will
be used as the basis of the course.

Course description
This half day course is specially aimed at those teachers who are using Junior
Control Insight which was provided as part of the NGfL Phase 3 and 4 software
packs. This excellent program enables children to operate a simple to use
'systems' approach with process boxes and outputs. Pupils test all their
ideas on screen in a simulation environment rich in images, animated graphics
and sound. The course will cover the units 5E and 6C of the QCA scheme of
work for Key Stage 2.

Course description
This course is based on Units 3C, 4C, 4D, 5B and 5C of the QCA scheme of
work for Key Stage 2. The course covers an introduction to making and using
databases, dealing with simple questions involving two or more variables,
sorting data and producing a variety of charts. You will learn how to use
and create tree branching databases with children (unit 4C). This will lead
to examples of classification materials related to science and history.

Course description
A course for heads, senior staff and administrators who are interested in
the statistical analysis of pupil data related to assessment and general
school issues. This course will cover the basic features of Excel '97, including
how data can be stored, analysed, manipulated and used to produce charts
and tables. We will also include the close analysis of typical data sets.

Course description
This one day course illustrates the ways in which ICT can be used effectively
during the Literacy Hour, and at other times, to help with text, sentence
and word level work in primary curriculum. We will show you how ICT can support
learners working towards the nine targets defined in the National Literacy
Strategy. The first part of the course will be based around the uses of Talking
Books - Kid Pix Studio - Slideshow and stories on the Internet which will
aid the process of reading and writing with confidence, fluency and
understanding.
We will show you how children can:
· Plan, draft, revise and edit their own writing;
· Use project-based email topics;
· Use word bank software to extend the use of phonics etc.
Additionally, the course will cover the making of materials for children
to use.

This course will look at the wide range of materials now available for supporting
the National Numeracy Strategy through the use of ICT. The course will look
at:
· Data handling activities with children using spreadsheets and
databases
· Solving problems involving numbers in context: 'real life, money and
measures'.
· Numeracy software developed by the Association of Teachers of
Mathematics
and on-line materials available through the internet.

Course description
This half-day course is based on Unit 4E of the QCA ICT Scheme of Work for
Key Stage 2. It builds on Unit 2D 'Routes: controlling a floor turtle'. The
course will cover the use and classroom developments of the LOGO software
currently used in schools, Screen Turtle and Super LOGO. The course will
show you how to write procedures, produce simple and complex designs and
work through the activities that form the basis of Unit 4E, Modelling Effects
on Screen.

Course description
A course for all teachers who wish to learn how to prepare ICT presentations
using the application Powerpoint which is part of the Microsoft Office Suite.
You will be taken through the basic steps, leading to the preparation of
presentations for use with a wide range of audiences. Additionally, the course
will cover incorporating images from digital cameras and scanners. Although
the course is focussed on the Year 7 QCA Unit 1 'Using ICT' it will be of
use to all teachers.

Course description
This course is based on the QCA ICT Scheme of Work for Key Stage 3, unit
3 Processing Text and Images. You will be shown how to gather, process and
output information in text and image form and explore a variety of image-capture
and image-manipulation methods to aid the creation of newspaper formats.
The first day of the course will concentrate on developing the skills required
to carry out the text and image manipulations using scanners, digital cameras
and the internet. The second day will be spent applying the knowledge and
undertaking various activities suitable for a range of subjects, which are
appropriate for Year 7 pupils. Microsoft Publisher is the basis of the course.

Course description
This course is designed to show you how to build an interactive website that
can be published on the worldwide web or school intranet. You will be shown
how to create pages that include graphics, hyperlinks and automated routines
to control events. This course is particularly suitable for teaching QCA
unit 9 - Publishing on the web (Year 8). It will also be suitable for teachers

Course description
This course is based on the ICT units 5D, 6B and unit 4 models: rules and
investigations of the QCA schemes of work for Key Stages 2 and 3. It is intended
to cover the entry of data, simple formulas and apply this to mathematical
and scientific models. Models will be studied which explore how changes in
a spreadsheet affect results and consideration given to the 'what if
.?'
question. At the end of the course, participants will be able to test the
behaviour of simple spreadsheet models and solve problems using spreadsheets.
